Fantasia 2025: A Simplistic Review - Buffet Infinity

In 2024 we had one of the biggest rap beefs ever when Drake and Kendrick Lamar went back and forth with some brutal diss tracks. From alleged affairs and pedophilia, to who was actually fathering their own children; the animosity was real.
While beef in the rap world is common, when is the last time you saw two restaurants go head-to-head for supremacy? Sure, you have Coca-Cola and Pepsi, and for my Canadian friends, Gordon Ramsey and Dany Lavy, but in ‘Buffet Infinity’ the beef between Jenny’s Sandwich Shop and the aforementioned Buffet (with the help of a pawn shop, a science fiction author and a savvy lawyer) takes things to the extreme.
Though a series of infomercials and interviews, ‘Buffet’ serves up a continued sense of dread from beginning to end as an unknown channel surfer flips from channel as the town of Westridge becomes increasingly unglued, but my oh my does that All You Can Eat Indian Buffet look great over at Infinity Buffet.
The concept works in a way where you have to embrace the weirdness of the town of Westridge and it’s numerous inhabitants from personal injury attorney Mosley Rosin, who may have a hidden secret, to Captain Savings who is trying to save YOU from Professor High Price, and of course Jenny of Jenny’s Sandwich Shop who has a secret sauce that is driving the competition crazy.
Director Simon Glassman’s debut film is something completely out of the box and while it’s not going to be for everyone (it works for me of course) the weirdness draws you in and keeps you invested in what’s going on in this small Canadian town and just when you think you might be getting somewhere, the channel flips and your reality slips. For fans of gonzo comedy like ‘Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job,’ ‘Wonder Showzen,’ ‘I Think You Should Leave,’ and the some ‘UHF’ for good measure, ‘Buffet’ serves up a wild trip that has a heaping helping of rewatchability if you can stomach the absurdity.
The 2025 Fantasia Film Festival runs from July 16th to August 3rd. ‘Buffet Infinity’ enjoyed it’s World Premier on July 28th 2025.
