Sour Minnows | Fantasia 2026

While Sour Minnows might not make the best first impression, it quickly sinks its hooks into you. It's a funny, inventive, and utterly nightmarish film that completely defied my expectations, ultimately becoming one of the most delightfully disturbing and interesting movies I've seen this year.

The film’s wild premise kicks off when two friends witness an inexplicably bizarre sight on an empty Los Angeles street, setting the stage for a surreal descent into madness. As the protagonist, Ricky, finds his reality and memories beginning to warp and fracture, the introduction of an eerie entity known as "The Yellow Thing" which wears humans like costumes, elevates the story from a quirky mystery into a full-blown psychological trip.

What makes the movie work so well is how confidently it commits to its own delirious logic. It perfectly balances a bizarre sense of humor with a genuinely unsettling atmosphere, constantly keeping you off balance as you try to figure out what is real. If you are a fan of weird, boundary-pushing cinema that leaves you questioning everything you just watched, this beautifully confounding thriller is absolutely worth your time.
